The first game of the season saw a 5-2 defeat for the Castlecroft football team.

A squad of 12 including 5 Year 6’s and 7 Year 5’s lined up against a strong Springdale team who finished as league runners-up last year. The first half saw a few nerves and mistakes but as the game progressed the team began to settle down. James became more confident in goal and despite plenty of pressure from a strong Springdale team, Castlecroft threatened on the break with promising runs from Tino and Aaron. A couple of mistakes and a couple of good finishes saw us go into the break 4-0 down but with heads up and plenty still to play for. Jacob, Will and Harry gave way to Zach, Rhys C and Max at half-time as Mr Morgan shuffled the team around. The second half saw a much more confident display as the team begun to push further forward and close down Springdale. A great turn and finish saw Castlecroft go 5-0 down but then Tino pulled one back to get our first goal of the season. The remaining 10 minutes saw us push much higher up the pitch and go close on a number of occasions with Aaron testing the keeper from long range and Beau bursting though to try and force another goal. Right at the death Tino manage a second to leave the final score 5-2. Well played everyone. Team spirit and support for each other was outstanding and you all improved as the game went on. I was very proud of you all. The next match is The Royal School away on Tuesday October 15th. Mr Morgan.
